Call of the Wild
Some of you know this already, but a week or two ago I submitted to a photo contest!
It was extremely last minute (I didn't know the contest existed until 10 minutes before the submission deadline), and it took five of the remaining six dollars in my bank account! Haha.
Despite how close I cut it with this competition, I believe I had a real shot. Here are the 5 photos I submitted:
A week later I'm sitting in Taco Bell with my family after our trip to the Alvord Desert, checking my email. Lo and behold, I'm a finalist in the competition!!! This is the selected shot:
Now I thought this meant it was me against about 15 other people. I was wrong. Yes, there are 10 finalists, but there are actually three different categories; each with one Grand Prize Winner! Which means, I am one OUT OF FOUR people competing for first place!! Way cooler than I originally thought.
I literally have a 25% of winning this thing.
HOWEVER! In order to get there, I need you all to vote. Can you do that for me? It only takes a minute or two. Just follow THIS LINK, fill out your info (email address and name), and then pick your favorites from each category.
If you really really want to help me out, I would ABSOLUTELY LOVE YOU if you shared either THIS LINK, or this blog post, with all of your friends! The more votes the better.
Next month I attend a benefit in Portland where they will reveal the winner of the competition. I will update you all again on October 13th (Friday the 13th, haha), but in the meantime, let me tell you a little about out trip!
As you can see from the pictures, there is not much out there in Fields, Oregon! Having a population of 8, the only thing of importance is the gas station; which also happens to be the grocery store. It also happens to be the restaurant, bar, liquor store, and hotel! My family sold out the hotel with a whopping two rooms, and we hunkered down there for a couple days.
It's funny, because we pretty much drove 7 hours to get to nothing. But when you're with cool people, nothing can be absolutely awesome! Not to mention the scenery was incredible. We did some shooting, a lot of driving, some photography (but no star shots, boo!), and some desert drifting.
On the way back we also hit the Skylight Cave, but we weren't there at the right time for the cool sunbeams you always see from that spot. Still, that was an incredible spot, and another check off my bucket list!
Again, thank you all SO MUCH for your help in winning this competition!! I can't tell you how excited I am for this. Seriously.
